Of all the cities I visit with work, Chicago has to be my favorite. Atlantic City is fun for PROMOTIONS EAST, but growing up in Philadelphia, I’ve been there countless times already. Vegas was like Disneyland for the first five minutes, but when you realize you don’t have enough money to gamble (let alone pay $5 for a small coffee), the appeal wears off fast. And Orlando is, well, Orlando. I still have mosquito bites.
But Chicago? Chicago’s a real city. It has people, and a personality, and a culture. In past years there, I’ve shopped, taken a hot dog tour, visited Wrigley Field, caught a free symphony at Millennium Park, had a drink on the 96th floor of the John Hancock Center, saw a show at Buddy Guy’s Legends (highly recommended) and watched a screening of “The Odd Couple” on a giant projector in Grant Park.
Every year I have a new goal when I visit the city. Last year was the trip to The Signature Room, and this year I’m thinking food. I’m currently torn between trying to find the best steak or best pizza in the city. If you’re a local or a regular with some recommendations for restaurants, or for good bars, I’d love to hear them.
I’m also looking forward to the show, of course. I’ve spent the past few events crouched over my computer the entire time, working on the newsletter and writing stories. I’ve graciously asked (e.g., forced) Mike to handle the newsletter while I’m gone this time, and I’m looking forward to talking with people and seeing what’s on the floor.
